Case Study for Green Hippo

The Client

Green Hippo produces industry leading media servers for the live events industry. Their Hippotizer software is a powerful video playback program that allows users to overlay multiple levels of video and mix them with special effects.

They work very closely with many high level international production companies who have been involved in many projects including illuminating Buckingham Palace and the Eiffel Tower at New Year.

The Requirements

After the initial success of the HippoCritter 1U Rack PC, Green Hippo wanted a new product. This new system was required to fill the gap between the HippoCritter and their HD unit.

Again G2 Digital had no 2U rack mounted computers so set about designing an system that required the following features:

• Intel i5 Quad Core Processor
• One PCI Express expansion slot for ATI HD67xxx series dual height Graphics Card
• One additional PCI Express slot for Capture Card
• 3+ Hard drive bays
• Air filter on the front panel
• Dual Network ports
• Windows XP Embedded operating system

The Solution

The solution was based around the 1U chassis, still compact but with additional PCI(e) full height expansion slots and more hard drive bays.

This system was designed to take mini-ITX., micro-ATX, ATX and server format motherboards which gives it huge flexibility in the types of specifications it can accommodate.

Air filtration was done by using a very fine stainless steel mesh sandwiched between the chassis and the front panel. It has 6x 3.5" hard drive bays, DVD drive bay and 3x full height PCI(e) expansion slots.
